THe Mount everest mindset.
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story can make all the difference.
What is the mount everest mindset -
Life and death have coexisted since the beginning of time. We have no choice in the matter of our life’s beginning, but we can have a lot to say about how it ends. I made the claim 19 years ago when my father died, that there would be no long-term care facilities in my future, and I intend to fulfill that promise. When I got the domain name, Second Half Coach, 15 years ago, I wasn’t exactly sure what to do with it. After immersing myself into all things fitness and aging related, a lot of soul searching, and living my beliefs for 15 years, I believe I will achieve my goal. I am ready to help others do the same.
I like to think I am waging war against aging, and in doing so, I will die a warrior’s death. In historical and mythological terms, dying a “warrior’s death”, means dying in active combat or as a direct result of one’s actions on the battlefield. It is characterized by bravery, duty, and a refusal to surrender, even against overwhelming odds. There is no need for long-term care centers on the battlefield.
Here enters the Mt. Everest Mindset.
Everest is not only the tallest mountain in the world it is one of the most difficult to scale. The first known successful attempt was in 1953. And what was once only possible for the wealthiest, has become the goal for anyone who wants to train for and attempt this feat. It is no coincidence that around this time people were starting to look for formattable challenges, as the industrial revolution eased the work load for many people, making jobs less physical. That, plus politics and peer pressure is contributing to making us a pampered, soft, society, with doctors and the drug industry offering us more years of life with less quality.
Mt. Everest is a metaphor for the last half of life. When you commit to this challenge, you commit to the training, the learning, listening to the Sherpa’s, and climbing until you cannot climb anymore. You might reach the summit and you might not. After reaching the summit after many attempts, you might even die on the way down. But you will have had a purpose, a reason for all the training, and you will have surely died a warriors death. A reason for going through pain, no regrets, no guilt, no lingering, just satisfaction and on to whatever is next.
I understand this won’t be the choice for everybody. But for those that who choose this path, I will do everything in my power to help you see it through. For the rest, I will no doubt have some things to help you too. Look at our service page and see what you think.
